According to recent research conducted by the experts, the prolonged use of mobile phones, anxiety and lack of awareness results in the increased seizures in patients suffering from Epilepsy. As defined by the World Health Organization, epilepsy is a serious convulsive disorder which is characterized by reoccurring convulsions that can be mild to chronic depending upon the state of disease the person is suffering from.
As said by the senior neurologist of India on the ‘World Epilepsy Day’, minor use of cell phone is not detrimental to health of the person suffering from epilepsy, however, extensive use can aggravate the problem as the harmful radiations from phone increase the risk of convulsive seizures.
Prolonged use of mobile phones causes epileptic seizure
He exclaimed further that to avoid such conditions, it is imperative to minimize the use of cell phones and if it necessary to use than try to use hands-free or speaker. Regular exercising also helps to reduce the risk of convulsions. Apart from that, drinking excessive water per day, overcoming anxiety and depression, avoiding jet lag and sleep deprivation can also help in overcoming the harmful condition.
Epilepsy is a chronic disorder and people suffering from this disease can die due to Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) and the patient can die due to severe seizure or respiratory failure. The SUDEP is responsible for causing deaths in 1 in 1000 people and is most common in patients that experience severe seizures and convulsions.
Patients suffering from epilepsy must be handled with care. The medications must be prescribed with care specially to the pregnant women as certain medications of epilepsy cause still and immature births. If born normal these can lead to neurological and hyperactivity disorders in such children as they grow older.
